Core Responsibilities

The primary role of the Parking Meter Technician is to ensure the effective maintenance, cleaning, and repair of parking meters. This position also involves supporting parking enforcement activities as needed.

  • Install and replace on-street parking meters as necessary.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance on existing meters.
  • Implement a maintenance program for single-space meters.
  • Regularly clean meters and replace batteries as required.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of parts, including domes, batteries, poles, and mechanisms for immediate replacements.
  • Respond promptly to repair requests for parking meters.
  • Keep a detailed log of meter repairs.
  • Perform daily inspections of routes to identify damaged meters.
  • Exercise sound judgment and diplomacy when interacting with the public.
  • Assist in the collection and secure handling of all revenue generated from parking meters and related technologies.
  • Support event staff with parking-related activities, including setup, traffic management, and payment processing.
  • Assist office personnel with permit sales during peak periods, including data entry and customer service.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Parking Meter Technician position should possess specific traits and skills to meet performance expectations. Key competencies include:

  • Technical expertise in parking meter systems.
  • Familiarity with local geography.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and hazards.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for courteous interactions.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.

Licensing Requirements

Work Availability

Work shifts may vary based on the hiring needs of the location, including potential requirements for third shifts or weekends.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
