We are seeking an experienced Patient Service Specialist to join our team at Adventist HealthCare's Outpatient Imaging department in Rockville, MD. As a Patient Service Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our department, providing exceptional customer service to patients, and working collaboratively with our healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities- Greet and direct patients for appointments, tests, and referrals, utilizing effective customer relations skills and telephone techniques.
- Schedule patient appointments and test procedures using a computerized scheduling system, prepare appointment notices, and schedule physician referrals.
- Obtain and verify patient demographic, financial, and insurance information using a computerized scheduling system.
- Perform pre-registration activities to gather demographic information, determine medical insurance coverage, and identify patients with delinquent accounts.
- Perform patient appointment maintenance activities to ensure accurate patient appointment history.
- Counsel patients on unpaid balances from previous visits and anticipated costs for services.
- Collect payment due at time of appointment and prepare receipts for all monies collected.
- Print forms or reminder cards necessary to facilitate the patient encounter and daily operations.
- Work with physicians and nursing staff to facilitate the patient encounter and departmental responsibilities.
- Assist in answering inquiries regarding departmental and Medical Center services and provide information regarding procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Print and review daily scheduling reports and distribute as appropriate.
- Review and balance daily cash receipts and submit daily cash deposits to the cashier.
- High School Diploma or Two years college degree preferred.
- Three years' experience in providing customer services is necessary.
- Customer service experience in a patient care environment, including one year experience in patient scheduling, is preferred.
- Experience utilizing a computerized patient scheduling system or computer terminals is necessary.
- Familiarity with Medical insurance and medical terminology is necessary.
- Typing skill of 30 wpm is necessary.
- Knowledge of IDX patient scheduling/registration systems is preferred.
- Two years of office management experience, preferably in physician office and/or ambulatory care setting.
Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. Drivers License required, must be able to travel to another office if coverage is needed.
