Position Overview

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

The Security Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of individuals and property by monitoring the expansive school grounds and upholding institutional policies.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma is mandatory.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in security services; Familiarity with fundamental safety, security, and fire alarm protocols.
  • Proficient in both verbal and written communication; Ability to assess situations and make sound decisions.
  • Capable of interacting courteously with the public.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and CPR certification.
  • Must submit a recent health examination from a licensed medical professional.
  • No history of serious criminal offenses.
  • Demonstrated capability or proficiency in assigned duties.

New hires must provide proof of immunity or vaccination against tetanus, diphtheria, and measles/rubella, as well as tuberculosis status via skin test or X-ray within thirty (30) days of employment, and at intervals determined by the supervisor.

Navajo/Indian Preference:

Preference in hiring will be granted to Navajo, American Indian, or Alaskan Tribal members who meet the necessary qualifications and provide the required documentation. The Navajo/Indian preference law will be applied in all aspects of this position.

CLASSIFICATION

This is a non-exempt hourly position, filled on an as-needed basis.

COMPENSATION

This role is classified as non-exempt support, compensated according to the NPS Support Salary Scale.

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to the Security Supervisor and/or Facility Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Utilize radio and telephone systems for effective communication and request assistance from emergency services as needed.
  2. Conduct regular patrols of designated areas on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to identify fires, vandalism, suspicious activities, or safety hazards.
  3. Ensure students do not leave the premises without proper authorization and that they adhere to school policies; Support the residential/academic program in addressing student violations within established guidelines.
  4. Investigate and report hazards or unusual circumstances to administration or local law enforcement as necessary.
  5. Inspect buildings to ensure doors and windows are secured; Document any unsecured entries and inform the supervisor.
  6. Assist individuals on campus by providing directions and information.
  7. Respond to alarms and emergencies, making informed decisions based on the situation and available information; Be knowledgeable about utility shut-off locations and act accordingly.
  8. Unlock buildings and check interiors in compliance with school policies.
  9. Support law enforcement with crowd management and surveillance during large events.
  10. Conduct 24-hour surveillance of school grounds to deter and detect unauthorized access, ensuring the security of all entry points.
  11. Monitor and authorize the entry and exit of employees, visitors, and others to prevent theft and maintain premises security.
  12. Document daily activities and any irregularities, including property damage, theft, or the presence of unauthorized individuals.
  13. Contact emergency services in critical situations, such as fires or unauthorized access; Meet emergency responders and communicate effectively.
  14. Report student rule violations and prepare detailed accounts of incidents.
  15. Alert authorities regarding loitering, substance use, or possession of prohibited items.
  16. Remain vigilant for and report any irregularities, such as fire hazards or safety concerns; Notify the Facility Manager or emergency services as required.
  17. Engage professionally with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents, and community members.
  18. Pursue professional development through ongoing education and training as scheduled by the supervisor.
  19. Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Navajo Preparatory School Board, Inc.
  20. Safeguard the confidentiality of student and staff information.
  21. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
