Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Coordinate Crew Work: Assign, supervise, and participate in the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers and equipment operators.
  • Lead Crew During Critical Operations: Supervise crew during snow and ice removal, ensuring that operations are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate with Supervisor and Team Members: Discuss job requirements with and receive directions from supervisor, and communicate effectively with team members to ensure that tasks are completed on time.
  • Inspect Work in Progress: Inspect work in progress to ensure that it conforms to instructions and standards.
  • Adjust Work Assignments and Maintain Records: Adjust work assignments as necessary, maintain time and material records, and prepare simple work reports.
  • Train and Instruct Employees: Train and instruct employees on new procedures and techniques.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in leading a construction and street maintenance crew, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; thorough knowledge of standard office and department specific software; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
  • Physical Requirements: This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and climbing or balancing and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).
