About the Job

This position is part of the U.S. Department of the Interior and requires a strong background in museum collections management and earth sciences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cataloging and managing specimens from Earth's rock record, including fossils and soil samples.
  • Updating and maintaining records and databases associated with in situ and museum specimens.
  • Assisting with annual inventories and fossil preparation to ensure cataloged specimens are stable.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Appointment is subject to a background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • May be required to operate a government motor vehicle as part of official duties.
  • Must complete a one-year trial period.
  • May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old or meet certain exceptions.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, including activities such as museum collections management, specimen cataloging, skeletal or fossil preparation, and field excavations.

Alternatively, applicants may qualify based on education, with a successful completion of at least one full year of graduate-level education in a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
