Job Summary

The Cardiac Rhythm Specialist assumes the responsibilities for continuous electro-cardiographic monitoring with rapid, accurate notification of questionable patterns, and provides accurate documentation of information obtained from the cardiac monitoring equipment.

This role involves provision of patient care/service to older adolescent, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients, with a focus on continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients via Avasys Tele sitter or direct one-on-one observation under the guidance of the nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Monitor patients' cardiac rhythms and report any changes or exceeding alarm parameters to the appropriate RN.
  • Enter patient information and approved data into central monitoring systems.
  • Set and maintain alarm limits according to policy.
  • Discharge patients as approved by the RN.
  • Maintain monitoring equipment and ensure it is clean and stored properly.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to the charge nurse and clinical equipment department.
  • Procure new supplies and inform Unit Director of supply needs as they occur.
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and families.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports to the Charge Nurse on patient status.
  • Assist the nurse in informing physicians of patient ECG history.
  • Accept re-assignments and function productively when reassigned.
  • Answer phone calls quietly, quickly, and respectfully, and accurately relay messages.
  • Notify RN of any dysrhythmia.
  • Encourage direct discussion between staff members when differences occur and seek assistance to arbitrate differences as needed.
  • Give and accept constructive feedback appropriately.
  • Identify actual and potentially unsafe patient care practices, report them in the designated manner, and suggest alternatives.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of Monitor Tech course preferred.
  • Previous hospital clerical experience or equivalent training or education preferred.
  • EKG within 90 days of hire/transfer date is required.
