Job Summary

The U.S. Department of the Interior is seeking a highly skilled Biological Science Technician to join our team. As a key member of our field operations team, you will be responsible for coordinating and implementing complex natural resource monitoring protocols across multiple parks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead logistics for field-based operations, ensuring seamless coordination with park staff and field crews.
  • Oversee and train field crew members in data collection and verification procedures, ensuring high-quality data entry and transcription.
  • Collect and organize natural resource field data, utilizing standardized protocols and equipment.
  • Enter data into established databases, following quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy.
  • Conduct fieldwork in remote backcountry settings, utilizing 4WD and off-trail hiking to access monitoring sites.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • Wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards.
  • Operate a government motor vehicle, requiring a valid driver's license.
  • Work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • Complete a one-year probationary period as a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government.
  • Travel overnight away from home up to 10 nights per month.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined.
Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
