Medical Laboratory Technician

This position performs waived and non-waived tests as defined by CLIA '88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. The ideal candidate will assist with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements. This role may be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform testing in an accurate and timely manner according to established policies and performance standards. Responsible for startup, calibration, and accuracy of procedures and instrumentation.
- Recognize and ensure the validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results for testing. Ensure accuracy of test results and participate in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures.
- Ensure the appropriate use of supplies and materials and assist with inventory management. Promote efficient utilization of reagents and supplies and recognize opportunities for improvements in financial performance.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Participate in the resolution of communication issues and promote positive communications that enhance teamwork.
- May process and prepare patient samples as required, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity.
Requirements
Applicant must meet one of the following criteria to qualify: Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science. Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR, or meet other criteria defined in 42CFR. Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy in departments where applicable. MLT certification is preferred.
