Position Overview

This role is essential in delivering high-quality nursing care within a surgical environment. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for a specific group of patients.

Key Responsibilities

The RN will:

  • Coordinate and actively engage as a vital member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, ensuring efficient unit operations and promoting favorable patient outcomes.
  • Float between various units, including short stay and recovery, while participating in a call rotation to provide continuous care for post-operative patients.
Essential Functions

To maintain professional standards, the RN will:

  • Enhance knowledge through workshops, professional publications, and networking.
  • Ensure quality care by adhering to established therapeutic standards and making necessary adjustments based on health outcomes.
  • Uphold infection control protocols and medication administration guidelines to protect patients and staff.
  • Document patient care accurately in departmental records.
  • Foster a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
  • Promote patient independence through education on self-care and condition management.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following all regulations and procedures.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to address patient needs effectively.
  • Manage nursing supplies and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
Short Stay Unit Responsibilities

The RN will provide comprehensive care by:

  • Identifying age-specific needs during patient assessments and education.
  • Facilitating the discharge process, ensuring patients understand their instructions and have necessary resources.
  • Administering blood transfusions and assisting healthcare professionals during procedures.
Recovery Room Responsibilities

In the recovery room, the RN will:

  • Develop educational processes tailored to patient needs, focusing on health maintenance and self-care.
  • Ensure continuity of care by reviewing postoperative orders and collaborating with receiving units.
  • Stay updated on new procedures and treatments relevant to postoperative care.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • One year of experience in critical care or PACU.
Licensure and Certifications

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania is mandatory, along with certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
