Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Therapist to join our team at Special Service for Groups, Inc. - HOPICS. As a Mental Health Therapist Outreach Specialist, you will be responsible for providing professional clinical services to mentally ill and emotionally disturbed consumers, as well as assisting consumers and their significant figures in understanding and developing solutions to problems that lead to and result from emotional and mental disturbances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct clinical assessments with adult consumers to obtain information to complete a comprehensive biological/psychological social assessment
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that correlate with the clinical assessment
  • Provide individual counseling, group counseling, and co-occurring counseling to homeless consumers
  • Assist consumers and their significant figures in understanding and developing solutions to problems that lead to and result from emotional and mental disturbances
  • Document all interactions and treatment plans in accordance with established standards of care
  • Participate in all required meetings, training, collaborations, and multi-disciplinary team meetings within the program
  • Represent the Agency and Division in a professional manner at meetings and community events
Requirements
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or Psychology, including supervised fieldwork experience in a mental health setting
  • Registered or Waivered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Active and in Good Standing)
  • Ability to work with clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work with homeless clients in the field
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally with collaborative entities
  • Neat and professional appearance; attention to detail and punctuality required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet
  • Experience working with homeless persons with co-occurring issues (mental/health/disabilities/substances)
Working Conditions

This position is responsible to work in any and all environments, including homeless encampments, in all areas of Service Planning Area 6. This position will require extensive interaction with homeless individuals, individuals with severe physical and mental disabilities, the possibility of individuals with infectious diseases, stray animals, moving vehicles, and other possible dangers associated with working in areas of high crime.

Physical and Mental Requirements

The Incumbent spends time sitting, standing, typing, thinking, writing, walking, driving, carrying (max. 25 lbs.), listening, speaking.

The incumbent is to be able to perform effectively under any and all of the following: unpredictable situations, crises, constant distractions, interruptions, uncontrollable changes in priorities/work schedules; be able to process information, think, and conceptualize.
