Position Overview

As a Lead Engineer specializing in Microbial Physiology and Fermentation, you will play a pivotal role in our Health and Biosciences division. This position is essential for driving innovation in microbial product development, bridging the gap between research and production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and guide a team of fermentation engineers and scientists in the enhancement and refinement of fermentation methodologies to yield superior products utilizing bacterial and fungal systems.
  • Lead and manage complex project teams, leveraging your technical expertise and broad perspective to navigate challenges.
  • Analyze intricate engineering and biological issues, employing thorough evaluations to identify root causes.
  • Provide expert technical support in diagnosing and resolving fermentation-related challenges.
  • Engage in the execution of scale-up and scale-down strategies for fermentation processes, including the design and analysis of experiments.
  • Collaborate effectively with leaders from various functional groups to ensure the successful achievement of project goals.
  • Contribute as an individual contributor by conducting experiments and advancing projects, while pursuing innovative technical concepts that align with business objectives.
  • Support strain and process enhancement initiatives through diverse methodologies, including evolution screening and small-scale assays.
  • Document experimental findings, deliver technical presentations, and prepare comprehensive reports encompassing progress, technical, legal, and regulatory aspects.
  • Enhance personal and team expertise through engagement with scientific literature and professional networks.
  • Identify and propose solutions for deficiencies in current research protocols and systems.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in relevant Engineering or Biosciences disciplines with a minimum of 9 years of industry experience, or a Master's degree with at least 12 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 16 years of experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a leadership role overseeing personnel.
  • Demonstrated expertise in microbial physiology, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals or intellectual property.
  • Proven track record in successfully scaling fermentation products/processes from laboratory to commercial levels.
  • Experience with design of experiments and statistical analysis methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and project leadership experience.
  • Ability to adapt to an agile team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in enzyme technology, food science, synthetic biology, or microbiome research.
  • Familiarity with both aerobic and anaerobic fermentation processes.
  • Experience in developing and utilizing computational models for complex biological systems analysis.
  • Knowledge of automation and process control is advantageous.
