Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other government payor guidelines.
- Understanding of benefits, including deductibles and copays, and ability to calculate estimates based on payor contracts.
- Prior experience in patient registration within a medical office or healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify patient demographic, insurance, and financial details upon receiving surgery booking information.
- Confirm patient type and procedure details to accurately obtain authorizations and pre-register patients.
- Ensure correct insurance order based on coordination of benefits rules.
- Collect and input necessary data for state reporting and compliance.
- Document all relevant information regarding benefits and patient responsibilities accurately.
- Investigate discrepancies in patient information promptly.
- Notify relevant personnel of any concerns regarding benefits or authorizations.
- Review insurance policies and notify scheduling offices of non-covered procedures.
- Maintain proactive communication with patients regarding financial responsibilities.
- Ensure compliance with hospital guidelines for out-of-network payors.
- Gather and document patient requests for Living Wills/Advance Directives.
- Complete necessary questionnaires for Medicare when applicable.
- Collect patient payments upon admission and obtain required signatures.
- Prepare patient wristbands and labels for pre-operative procedures.
- Maintain accounts receivable metrics within established targets.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to discuss patient information appropriately.
- Engage with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional manner to foster a positive environment.
- Understand and meet departmental performance metrics and key performance indicators.
