GENERAL OVERVIEW

The role involves executing moderately complex skilled tasks to operate bindery machinery, ensuring the production of high volumes and quality of documents such as forms, reports, and manuals as required by various departments. The work may involve handling sensitive information and is performed under moderate supervision once fully trained, allowing limited independent decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Set up and operate bindery machinery to complete the specified quantity, size, and style of printed materials requested by the department. This includes processes such as cutting, folding, and binding.

2. Adjust bindery machines to meet all finishing specifications and oversee the accuracy of the final output.

3. Calculate the necessary materials for fulfilling a specific order.

4. Organize and initiate the delivery of completed production runs to the appropriate location for further processing or distribution.

5. Maintain, clean, lubricate, and perform minor repairs on assigned equipment to ensure efficient operation, notifying the supervisor when major repairs are needed.

6. Keep precise daily records of completed jobs, materials utilized, machine downtime, and related information, indicating necessary steps for order completion on work orders.

7. Assist in moving and stacking pallets for temporary storage and transport printed materials to the work area for loading into the assigned equipment.

8. Provide assistance in other areas as workload requires.

9. Participate in special projects related to shop maintenance or equipment reconfiguration as needed.

10. Maintain regular attendance and adhere to approved work hours according to agency policies.

11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: At least one year of verifiable experience as a Bindery Technician or training as a Printing Service Technician.

Licensure: Must hold a valid driver’s license from the state of residence.

Knowledge: Familiarity with bindery equipment and safe operational procedures. Proficient in setting up, loading, and adjusting binding machinery while ensuring product quality.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers, demonstrating poise, tact, and diplomacy.

Organizational Skills: Must be organized and flexible, capable of prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment. Ability to calculate material quantities for production runs and effectively schedule job orders for optimal productivity.

Communication Skills: Ability to comprehend and apply oral and written instructions of moderate complexity.

Technology Skills: Proficient in relevant software and systems, with demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Confidentiality: Must ensure the security of sensitive materials and comply with relevant laws and policies regarding information access and dissemination.

Safety: Commitment to working safely at all times, adhering to safety standards and best practices.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

The physical and environmental requirements for this position include the ability to stand, walk, and sit; hand-eye coordination; the ability to speak, hear, and maintain visual acuity; and the capacity to lift weights up to fifty pounds.
