Position Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a Signals Engineer Supervisor to oversee the management of lane closure operations. This role involves responding to lane closure requests outside standard work hours, evaluating major construction project's Traffic Management Plans (TMP), updating district lane closure protocols, and coordinating project reviews to address work zone conflicts.
Key Responsibilities
- Analysis and Reporting: Interpret technical engineering data and produce comprehensive reports and recommendations.
- Traffic Signal Systems Management: Maintain and support traffic signal systems, ensuring the reliability of the central operating system for signal timing optimization.
- Project Coordination: Plan and manage engineering activities to meet deliverables within established timelines.
- Operations Engineering: Develop policies for proactive management of the arterial transportation network and assist in traffic signal operations assessments.
- Lane Closure Oversight: Analyze traffic data to recommend lane closure hours and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with policies.
- Effective Communication: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, preparing technical documents and responding to inquiries.
- Team Leadership: Supervise a team of engineers and technicians, promoting professional development and monitoring work activities.
- Compliance Assurance: Ensure all engineering projects adhere to relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Agency Representation: Represent the agency in discussions with citizens, local governments, and the business community.
- Special Projects: Undertake special assignments related to engineering programs as needed.
- Project Management: Participate in project meetings, providing insights on lane closure hours and TMP requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding traffic control devices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Strong communication skills for conveying technical information.
- Experience in developing and reviewing construction maintenance of traffic plans.
- Supervisory experience with the ability to prioritize competing tasks.
Additional Considerations
- Experience in a transportation planning environment.
- Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer's (PE) license is preferred.
- Background in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related fields is desirable.
