Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Signals Engineer Supervisor to lead the lane closure management program. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure lane closures are in accordance with established policies, resolving work zone conflicts, and minimizing traffic impacts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate lane closure requests, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate traffic congestion and optimize traffic signal timings.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including VDOT staff, local governments, and consultants.
  • Analyze traffic patterns and provide recommendations for improving traffic flow.
  • Supervise a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance and direction to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ensure all engineering projects are completed in compliance with VDOT, state, and federal policies, procedures, guidelines, laws, and regulations.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of federal and state policies and regulations relative to traffic control devices, including the Manual Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with competing deadlines and limited resources.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience with developing and reviewing construction maintenance of traffic (MOT) and transportation management plans (TMP).
  • Knowledge of project and program management, including supervisory experience in a transportation planning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer's (PE) license.
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
