REPORTS TO: Controller/Corporate Director of Finance
DEPARTMENT: Accounting
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Accounting Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating the financial operations within the organization. This position is responsible for compiling, reviewing, reconciling, and analyzing financial entries to support the bookkeeping process. The role includes preparing financial statements and various reports to ensure the availability of accurate and timely financial information.
This position also assists with Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Income Journal, General Cashiering, Taxes, and Internal Controls. In certain cases, the Accounting Manager may oversee the daily operations of specific areas such as Credit Management, Food & Beverage Controls, or Accounts Receivable. The individual is expected to make recommendations, suggest improvements in financial controls, and report any procedural violations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise, train, and guide accounting staff, addressing issues and participating in hiring and performance evaluations.
- Prepare, review, and reconcile daily postings, accruals, and various general ledger accounts to ensure precise financial data.
- Compile and analyze period-end data related to food and beverage costs and inventories, providing insights and recommendations to management regarding current practices and controls.
- May oversee the accounts receivable function and manage credit and collection processes to deliver quality service to customers and management.
- Monitor and review internal control procedures across various hotel operations, including Food and Beverage and Cashiering.
- Forecast and manage property cash flow effectively.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compile and prepare daily reports, financial statements, periodic forecasts, and annual budgets to support timely and accurate information dissemination.
- Engage in special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned, including participation in task forces and committees.
- Minimal travel may be required for training or task force activities.
- Work hours typically range from 40 to 50 hours over a five-day period, with schedules subject to change based on operational needs.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Responsible for managing one or more accounting staff members, depending on the size of the property.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge: Advanced understanding of finance principles and practices within the hospitality sector is essential. This includes the ability to analyze current activities and provide logical conclusions and recommendations based on available data.
Skills: Strong auditory skills for effective training and communication with management and staff. Proficient visual skills for reading reports and utilizing computer systems. Excellent verbal communication skills are necessary for training and interaction with team members.
Abilities: Ability to lift, push, or carry items weighing up to 15-20 lbs. Limited bending or kneeling may be required for organizing supplies or equipment. Mobility is necessary for movement between offices and departments.
Education/Formal Training: A four-year college degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience: A minimum of one to two years of relevant experience in a similar role is required.
Material/Equipment Used: Proficient use of computers, calculators, and telecommunication devices is expected.
Environment: Work is conducted indoors for the entirety of the work period.
