About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Assistant to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Surgical Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our surgeons and operating room staff in providing high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons and operating room staff in preparing for and performing surgical procedures
  • Participate in the preparation of the operating room, including setting up equipment and supplies
  • Anticipate and respond to the needs of surgeons and operating room staff during procedures
  • Provide aseptic surgical techniques and maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Assist in the training of Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Surgical Technologist (CST) certification issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within 12 months
  • Advanced training beyond High School in Surgical Technology
  • 3 years of experience in a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant position
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull with 30 lbs of force, and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present. You will also be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids.
