Job Summary

A Polysomnographic Technologist PRN works under the general supervision of the Medical Director and designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
  • Complete and verify documentation, explain procedures to patients, prepare and calibrate testing equipment, and apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
  • Follow department procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data, perform difficult and unusual procedures, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Score sleep/wake stages, clinical events, and generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  • Implement appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for optimal patient safety and therapeutic intervention.
  • Work closely with staff members, trainees, and students to provide instruction, education, and precept/mentor in order to deliver optimal testing results.
Requirements
  • Formal training in polysomnography program and/or enrolled in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option.
  • Required certifications include CRT-Polysomnographic Technologist - BRPT Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists, CRT-Respiratory Therapist Registry - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care, or CRT-Registered Sleep Technologist - ABSM American Board of Sleep Medicine.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
