KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Gift Planning Unit at the American Red Cross is dedicated to securing planned contributions that support various facets of our mission and to establish the Red Cross as the preferred charity for such gifts.

With general oversight, you will design, implement, and manage planned giving initiatives, actively pursue new opportunities and strategies for planned giving donors, and provide assistance and guidance to volunteers.

All tasks must be performed in accordance with established procedures and relevant regulations.

WHERE YOUR WORK MAKES A DIFFERENCE:

  • Oversee comprehensive gift planning strategies for a diverse portfolio and/or specific service requirements.
  • Evaluate information on potential donors to formulate effective outreach strategies.
  • Engage with potential donors to promote planned contributions.
  • Establish protocols for receiving, acknowledging, and reporting planned gifts.
  • Develop and contribute to initiatives and marketing strategies aimed at attracting potential donors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in philanthropy studies or a related discipline is required. Certifications such as CFRE, CFP, CAP, or LLM are preferred.

  • At least 5 years of experience in major gifts or gift planning is required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with planned giving vehicles and fundraising practices is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications, are necessary.
  • Demonstrated diplomacy in sensitive situations is crucial.
  • Knowledge of the Northern California region is advantageous.
  • Personal transportation is required.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Travel: 10% - 25% business travel is expected.
