Position Overview:
The primary objective of this role is to deliver immediate first-aid and medical assistance while responding to critical rescue scenarios that may involve serious injury or life-threatening situations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain operational readiness and function as a team member during emergency medical responses, providing essential medical stabilization to patients in the field.
2. Deliver medical services in accordance with established protocols during emergencies.
3. Gather, relay, and meticulously document information regarding medical emergencies to enhance patient care quality; ensure timely and comprehensive reporting to medical facility personnel while safeguarding patient confidentiality.
4. Provide medical assistance to patients when other team members are classified as Emergency Medical Technicians.
5. Administer intravenous fluids and medications during transport to medical facilities; perform pulmonary ventilation and collect blood samples for laboratory testing.
6. Execute emergency cardiac interventions and other advanced medical treatments, including administering medications via various routes and performing necessary life-saving procedures.
7. Engage in ongoing training to enhance proficiency in medical techniques and ambulance operations.
8. Familiarize oneself with local geography, including roadways and routes, to optimize response times.
9. Address non-emergency requests, such as patient transport between healthcare facilities.
10. Assist in the upkeep and inspection of emergency medical service vehicles and equipment.
11. Test and maintain medical apparatus, including CPR devices, defibrillators, and oxygen delivery systems.
12. Serve as a mentor in statewide pre-hospital education initiatives, evaluating and guiding the performance of EMT trainees.
13. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. For Paramedic I: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by required coursework in emergency medical techniques and a minimum of one year of experience as an EMT, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
2. Must be at least 18 years old.
Additional Qualifications for Paramedic I:
Experience in emergency medical services is preferred. Certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent must be obtained within one year of hire.
Minimum Qualifications for Paramedic II:
1. High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by required coursework in emergency medical techniques and at least three years of experience as a Paramedic, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
2. Must be at least 18 years old.
Additional Qualifications for Paramedic II:
Certification as a Critical Care Paramedic by the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) or equivalent; ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Proficient understanding of basic and advanced emergency medical procedures and techniques.
2. Familiarity with equipment and supplies used in emergency patient care.
3. Knowledge of patient movement, rescue techniques, and psychological support for patients.
4. Ability to quickly assess and respond to emergency situations.
5. Competence in operating emergency vehicles safely.
6. Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the public.
