Position Overview
The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor plays a crucial role in managing daily operations on the service shop floor. This position requires effective communication with both customers and technicians to establish a productive workflow and allocate work orders efficiently. The supervisor must possess a deep understanding of each technician's strengths to optimize task assignments. Additionally, they handle incoming work orders from various sources, ensuring that customer needs are met promptly.
The supervisor must be adaptable, managing shifting priorities while balancing the demands of customers, sales representatives, and management. Daily meetings are conducted to relay essential information and ensure continuity of operations between shifts. By upholding high standards, the supervisor fosters loyalty among clients and staff. This role also involves hands-on truck maintenance and repairs, with approximately 50% to 60% of the shift dedicated to these tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee timely and high-quality repairs for rental, lease, and maintenance vehicles.
- Ensure that service commitments are met or exceeded.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding billing, service disruptions, and resolutions.
- Welcome all customer representatives with professionalism and enthusiasm, maintaining clear communication to address their needs.
- Provide alternative solutions when customer requests cannot be fulfilled, maintaining transparency about limitations.
- Balance customer satisfaction with cost control.
- Mentor and develop engaged technicians, emphasizing clear expectations.
- Conduct regular audits of preventative maintenance inspections and repairs for quality assurance.
- Maintain expertise to assist technicians with complex repairs.
- Facilitate training sessions for technicians to enhance their skills.
- Manage daily shop operations effectively.
- Assign work orders based on technician skills, repair time, and customer commitments.
- Schedule preventative maintenance and repair work with customers.
- Respond to customer breakdowns promptly.
- Manage work order processes from initiation to completion.
- Receive and allocate parts to relevant work orders.
- Communicate daily achievements and challenges to management.
- Ensure compliance with warranty processes to maximize repair cost recovery.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Diesel Technology program is preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience is advantageous.
- Minimum of 2 years as a master-level technician.
- At least 5 years of experience as a technician.
- Strong understanding of shop operations and workflows.
- Expertise in truck repair standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Attention to detail is essential.
- Professional demeanor with strong customer service skills.
- Ability to supervise and motivate a diverse team effectively.
- Proficient in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
The hourly wage for this role ranges from $34.97 to $43.71.
