POSITION: Staff Accountant

REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager

LOCATION: Fresno, CA

SALARY: $66, $75,000.00 annual, DOE

COMPANY OVERVIEW:

Caglia Environmental is a member of the Caglia Family Companies, employing over 250 individuals across various sectors including Electric Motor Repair, Electrical Distribution, Construction, Landfill Management, Recycling, and Waste & Disposal.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

This role encompasses comprehensive accounting responsibilities, including month-end closing procedures, maintenance of the general ledger, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant will also engage in budget formulation, financial analysis, and compliance reporting with insurance policies and regulatory bodies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Embrace and promote the mission, values, and vision of the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure timely completion of accounting tasks.
  • Engage in the month-end closing process, ensuring all financial data is accurately documented and reported.
  • Conduct regular bank and general ledger reconciliations to uphold precise financial records.
  • Oversee intercompany billing and charge transactions, ensuring proper documentation and accounting.
  • Review the accounts payable process in detail, identifying opportunities for enhancement and implementing necessary changes.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate ledger entries and general ledger systems.
  • Record monthly depreciation entries and manage schedules for Plant, Property, and Equipment (PP&E) as well as Construction in Progress (CIP).
  • Participate in the annual financial statement audit, coordinating with external auditors and gathering cross-departmental data.
  • Generate month-end reporting materials, ensuring accuracy and timeliness for management and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with banking functions, including electronic payment preparation and daily banking reports for internal management.
  • Handle payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations, collaborating with HR/Payroll to ensure precise payroll and tax postings.
  • Track and document waste hauls and tonnages, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory reporting.
  • Engage in special projects and tasks as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong grasp of accounting principles, particularly in month-end closing, reconciliations, and billing processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word at an intermediate level.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, adept at handling multiple projects concurrently.
  • Reliable and accountable, demonstrating consistent attendance and punctuality, with the capacity to work overtime as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, ideally within the manufacturing sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, budget management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset management, and credit card program oversight.
