Job Summary

The Alexandria City Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans for students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement district-approved curriculum to meet the needs of special education students.
  • Student Progress Monitoring: Monitor and document student progress, identifying areas of strength and weakness.
  • Communication: Communicate with parents, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to student success.
  • Classroom Management: Create a safe and optimal learning environment, managing student behavior and providing positive reinforcement.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Certifications: Valid Virginia Department of Education License with an endorsement in Special Education, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance and Tuberculosis Skin Test.
