Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivers direct patient care utilizing medical nutrition therapy for a designated patient group.
  • Provides counseling and educational services to patients with conditions requiring nutritional management.
  • Develops a nutritional care plan, communicates it effectively, establishes a follow-up system, and maintains accurate documentation.
  • Modifies diet orders; initiates assessments of nutrient intake; evaluates patients for signs of nutritional deficiencies; reviews laboratory and clinical notes; informs healthcare providers of patients' nutritional status and necessary dietary adjustments; formulates care plans, documentation, and reassessments.
  • Coordinates the efforts of dietetic technicians assigned to the area.
  • Contributes to Cleveland Clinic-sponsored educational programs for healthcare professionals, students, and the public.
  • Creates and updates educational materials related to disease management through medical nutrition therapy.
  • Engages in program development aimed at marketing and expanding departmental services and revenue generation.
  • Promotes services to potential and existing referral sources; develops and implements services based on client needs and preferences.
  • Actively participates in departmental initiatives, including committees and projects.
  • Supports the dietetic internship program as a supervised practice rotation preceptor and class instructor.
  • Completes reports for ongoing productivity tracking.
  • Engages in professional development activities; attends and contributes to conferences and seminars on nutrition and related subjects.
  • Represents Cleveland Clinic on nutrition-related matters.
  • Conducts clinical research and utilizes clinical software applications to enhance care.
  • Adheres to all regulatory standards including CMS, JCAHO, ADA, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a closely related field.

Certifications:

  • Maintains a current license to practice dietetics in the relevant state (LD) and active certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD).

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and taking appropriate actions.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum one year of experience as a Registered Dietitian in clinical nutrition.
  • Successful completion of a Dietetic Internship Program may substitute for the experience requirement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate extensively to provide services to a large patient population and manual dexterity sufficient for computer entry.
  • Must possess the physical capability to measure and weigh patients.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
