Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Emergency Response Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our emergency operations team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment, including dump trucks, front-end loaders, and tractors, to clear snow and ice from roadways. Your expertise in operating medium and heavy equipment will be crucial in supporting emergency operations during inclement weather.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment, including dump trucks, front-end loaders, and tractors, to clear snow and ice from roadways.
  • Apply abrasives and chemicals on road surfaces to improve traction and safety.
  • Perform heavy manual labor, including standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Work call-out during day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Requirements
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (minimum Class B) required.
  • Experience performing snow removal operations, especially using single/tandem axle/dump truck, motor grader, backhoe, tractor, front end loader, etc.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on diverse equipment.
  • Experience working 12 hour shifts, night and/or day, when necessary.
