Job Title: Transmission Planning Intern

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Transmission Planning Intern to join our team at Western Power Pool. As a Transmission Planning Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced engineers and gain hands-on experience in transmission planning and modeling.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the verification of transmission planning models, including power flow and transient stability.
  • Learn the principles behind transmission modeling and the need for completing these types of analysis to assure transmission system reliability.
  • Participate in meetings with WPP's member utilities to gain knowledge of broader transmission planning efforts in the Western Interconnect.
  • Support certain administrative functions, including meeting support, development of communications materials, and note taking.
Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate level student at an ABET accredited college or university studying Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems Engineering.
  • Pursuing BS/MS in Engineering; power option studies is a plus.
  • Must have completed at least one upper level (300+) Power Systems course; an example might include Power Systems 1 or the equivalent.
  • An enthusiasm for engineering and a strong desire to learn from experienced engineering staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Exposure to one or more software programs utilized for power systems modeling.
  • Exposure to programming language; examples include Python or C++.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $20.70 to $22.50 per hour and a flexible schedule of 10-20 hours per week. This position is temporary and is currently funded through June of 2025.
