Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including assessment of patient history, documentation of anatomy and pathology, and producing and summarizing documentation of procedure findings.
  2. Evaluate requisition and patient information to determine appropriateness of procedure, collaborate and plan the workday and patient flow with fellow sonographers and clerical support staff, and review patient's chart and films for correlation.
  3. Screen exam indications to ensure appropriate orders and level of testing, precept new employees and students, and attend regularly scheduled departmental ultrasound conferences and in-unit quality assurance unit updates.
  4. Provide ultrasound guidance for procedures, including sonohysterograms, CVS, amniocentesis, and fetal procedures, and demonstrate ability to provide ultrasound guidance for various procedures.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a twelve (12) month program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or General Ultrasound.
  • RDMS registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

Work Environment:

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. This is not a State employed position.
