Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare examination rooms and check daily patient schedules to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Greet patients and escort them to and from examining rooms, providing a warm and welcoming experience.
  • Obtain accurate and concise patient history, including ocular, medical, family history, past medical history, and past ocular history.
  • Measure visual acuity, test glare factor, and read glasses, understanding principles of sphere, cylinder, and prism.
  • Neutralize patients' lenses and test color vision, Amsler grid, and depth perception when warranted.
  • Instill ocular medication and apply ocular dressings as needed.
  • Instruct patients concerning medicines, tests, and surgical procedures.
  • Assist with and/or perform additional testing ordered by the doctor.
  • Take dictation and keep accurate records.
  • Clean exam rooms, sterilize instruments, and stock supplies on a weekly basis.
  • Perform A Scans, pulse, and blood pressure procedures on pre-op patients.
  • Perform hand-held tonometry, visual field, and PAM procedures.
  • Screen phone messages, triage emergency calls, and return patient calls.
  • Assist optometrists with contact lens insertion, removal, cleaning, ordering, and returning.
  • Assist the front desk area for coverage.
Requirements
  • Must have good telephone and communication skills.
  • Must be able to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and policies.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.
  • Must be able to operate equipment to perform various treatments, procedures, and office procedures for ophthalmology and optometry.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology office procedures and general medical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, systemic, and ocular diseases is preferred.
  • Experience with administration of eye drops, ointments, and irrigating solutions, and pharmacology of drugs used in dilation is preferred.
  • Prefer a minimum of one year previous work experience.
