The St. Paul Learning Center Childcare Support Specialist plays a vital role in fulfilling the mission of the Catholic educational institution by nurturing, guiding, and educating students within a loving, Christ-centered atmosphere. This position is directly accountable for implementing the policies of the learning center and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they pertain to the operation of the school, classroom, and interactions with students and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the institution.
  • Serves as a role model for Gospel values by exemplifying the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Exhibits professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
  • Monitors and assists individual students in small instructional groups to facilitate learning activities.
  • Supervises students during lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Performs clerical tasks, prepares instructional materials, and organizes bulletin boards as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Meets staff development guidelines established by the school administration and Archdiocese of San Antonio.
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, and staff.

  • Maintains accurate and current records in accordance with school policy.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to address individual learning needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in an educational setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of the fundamental teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Effective communication skills in both written and verbal forms.
  • Able to collaborate well with others in a school community.
  • Proficient in managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Competent in using job-appropriate technology.
  • Skilled in motivating and engaging students in the learning process.
Working Conditions:
  • Required to manage moderate to high levels of stress.
  • Required to work in standard classroom and school environments.
Mental/Physical Demands:
  • Required to lift or carry supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment.
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger.
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis.
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as typing, writing, and reading.
  • Required to supervise students in various locations, including those with noise and activity.
Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Experience supervising children preferred.

3. Continuing education hours preferred.
