Compensation Overview

The salary range for this position reflects a national market range and encompasses a wide array of salaries for this role across the country. The actual compensation will be influenced by various factors, including the role's scope, complexity, and location; the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience; as well as other employment conditions. Our comprehensive compensation and benefits program also includes eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range
$118,000 - $196,200.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Under general supervision, you will take ownership of the Property Technical Discipline within your designated area. This includes conducting thorough Risk Assessments, assisting clients with Loss Control, providing guidance to Staff and Business Partners, and identifying training needs for Regional Specialist Consultants (RSCs) and Staff. This role serves as a technical resource for Risk Control Consultants and Underwriters and acts as a mentor to others. As a Senior Risk Control Specialist, you will manage complex assignments characterized by technical intricacy, customer service expectations, and high visibility. You will demonstrate exceptional technical abilities along with strong interpersonal skills and training capabilities. You may also assume some responsibilities of the Technical Director in their absence. This position influences others without direct management responsibilities. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct specialized Risk Assessment surveys at complex client locations to identify potential hazards and risk factors, as requested by clients or for underwriting purposes.
  • Document findings and recommendations for Account Executives and/or clients.
  • Advise clients on methods to control hazards to reduce or mitigate losses, providing technically sound yet adaptable solutions that meet both Travelers' and the client's needs.
  • Act as a technical expert resource for Risk Control Consultants and Underwriters.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with underwriting and service teams, brokers/agents, Claims, other Risk Control staff, and clients.
  • Conduct research for underwriters or clients on business classes, operations, or other technical subjects requiring similar analysis.
  • Stay informed about the regulatory landscape and emerging issues within the technical specialist discipline.
  • Function as an Account Consultant for select National Property accounts.
  • Maintain timely and relevant communication with the Technical Director, Field Management, and Risk Control staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 8 or more years of experience in Property/Highly Protected Risk (HPR) preferred.
  • Exceptional technical and interpersonal skills preferred.
  • Experience in technical training preferred.
  • Communication: Ability to convey complex technical information and recommendations clearly to diverse audiences. Influences others to act on recommendations and listens effectively. Strong written communication skills.
  • Business Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of insurance products, services, and risk selection practices. Thorough knowledge of Risk Control performance standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in the technical specialist discipline with working knowledge of relevant Risk Control computer systems applications.
  • Customer Service: Balances customer expectations with expense constraints, builds credibility with internal and external customers, and demonstrates the value of risk control services.
  • Resource Management: Continuously assesses workload in relation to business priorities and directs efforts accordingly. Identifies methods for enhancing personal productivity and makes sound judgments regarding appropriate service levels for customers.
Essential Requirements
  • A degree in Fire Sciences or an engineering discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Property Loss Prevention/Risk Control is required.
