POSITION SUMMARY:

The Trauma Care Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in the establishment, execution, and assessment of the trauma care initiative. This position is accountable for designing, implementing, and sustaining an efficient care system for trauma patients and their families throughout their care journey. The coordinator collaborates closely with the trauma program medical director and various healthcare professionals, as well as management personnel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold and comply with hospital policies, procedures, philosophy, and mission.
  • Organize services and systems essential for a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Oversee daily operations and performance improvement activities related to nursing and support staff.
  • Act as a liaison to hospital administration and represent the trauma program on various committees to promote optimal trauma care.
  • Engage in the formulation and planning of objectives related to trauma care.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director, hospital administration, and clinicians to evaluate the need for policies, procedures, and protocols regarding trauma patient care.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies and standards through observation, medical record reviews, and staff feedback.
  • Design, coordinate, and assess trauma-related educational initiatives for nursing personnel.
  • Monitor compliance of nursing staff with educational requirements of the trauma program.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for trauma-related educational programs for hospital staff.

PROGRAM INITIATIVES:

  • Ensure compliance with statewide trauma systems regulatory requirements and coordinate preparations for designation site reviews.
  • Develop and nurture collaborative relationships with all hospital departments to support quality trauma care.
  • Participate in state and regional trauma activities to enhance the development of a regional trauma system and monitor national and statewide trends in trauma care.
  • Respond to trauma team activations during work hours and fulfill necessary roles to assist in the care of trauma patients.
  • Serve as a resource for hospital staff regarding trauma care issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently licensed as a registered nurse or EMT/Paramedic.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in trauma or emergency care.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Capacity to accept and implement change.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Possession of critical thinking, analytical, teaching, coaching, and research skills.
  • Current knowledge of Medical/Surgical and Emergency nursing practices, Pediatric and Trauma protocols, with robust analytical skills.
  • Commitment to customer service excellence, including exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and management.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Trauma One.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS provider certifications from a recognized organization.
  • TNCC certification required; 16 hours of trauma-related continuing education annually.

All candidates must meet specific pre-employment requirements, including a physical examination and medical clearance. Compliance with regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings is mandatory.
