This role involves serving as an engineer within the Pressure Systems Recertification Division. This team conducts and assesses structural integrity evaluations on piping and pressure vessels to ensure that aging high-pressure systems remain within their operational lifespan and can function safely. The systems in question include wind tunnels and both process and utility piping. The latter encompasses cryogenic liquids, hydraulic systems, liquid fuels, and high-pressure gases such as air, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, silane, and methane.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform code calculations in accordance with national consensus standards such as ASME BPVC Section VIII and ASME B31.3. Familiarity with COMPRESS - Pressure Vessel Code Analysis software is advantageous.
  • Conduct backpressure calculations for pressure safety valves (PSV).
  • Execute non-destructive testing (NDT) including visual inspections (VT) and ultrasonic thickness measurements (UTT).
  • Carry out inspections and compile inspection reports detailing any rejectable findings while suggesting modifications to in-service inspection protocols.
  • Provide technical documentation for proposed modifications, repair plans, and construction packages.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred, along with three (3) to five (5) years of relevant engineering experience; alternatively, a Master’s degree with two (2) to three (3) years of experience, or a Ph.D. in a related field.
  • Proficiency in ASME, NBIC, ASNT, API, and other relevant national consensus codes and standards related to pressure vessel/system design, fabrication, installation, and inspection is essential.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain ASNT NDT Level II certification.
  • Familiarity with non-destructive examination methods (e.g., RT, UTT, PT, MT, EC, etc.) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of corrosion prevention and control methods is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential; the candidate must be a collaborative team player and communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.

Work Environment:
This position primarily involves an office setting (75%). However, exposure to high noise levels, hazardous materials, and industrial environments may occur during testing (5%).

Equipment and Machines:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (30%) and safety equipment (10%).

Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of navigating all areas of test facilities, which may require walking, standing, bending, twisting, and sitting for extended periods, as well as climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 35 lbs. (10%).
