Our team is responsible for designing and developing the electrical systems that power our Starship spacecraft. This includes high-voltage batteries, traction inverters, power generation, and power distribution systems.

We're looking for a skilled engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of these complex systems. If you have a strong background in electrical engineering and experience with design and analysis, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-voltage batteries, traction inverters, power generation, and power distribution systems
  • Perform thermal, structural, dynamic, and tolerance analysis for electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Drive design requirements to initial mechanical design trades, 3D models, and creation of production drawings and design data maintenance
  • Failure analysis of components as it relates to thermal, loads, vibration, and shock
  • Interface with machine shops and production teams to ensure final designs can be produced in accordance with overall project goals
  • Own the hardware delivery timeline and success through inception, design, assembly, test, and integration
  • Lead design reviews internally and participate in reviews with suppliers and customers
  • Ensure structural designs are capable of both weight and rate targets using innovative design and manufacturing approaches

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical or electromechanical design and analysis

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Strong first-principles understanding of engineering fundamentals
  • Proficient and frequent use of hand calculations, finite element analyses (FEA), and computer-aided designs (CAD)
  • Domain knowledge of power component design fundamentals (e.g. motors, inverters, batteries, solar, or energy storage systems)
  • Exposure to high volume production designs with a focus on design for manufacturability
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T
  • Experience working with PCB designers and exposure to PCB layout

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel as needed to Starbase launch facility - Brownsville, TX
  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones

Compensation and Benefits:

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
