Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver engaging lesson plans that cater to different learning styles and achieve specific objectives.
  • Plan instruction to meet student needs and established curriculum, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
  • Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities to support the growth of our program.
  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers within 72 hours, providing timely feedback for improvement.
  • Discuss academic or behavioral issues with students and alert the Assistant Dean of Faculty and Student Services Coordinator as needed.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled face-to-face office hours to advise and assist students, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Supervise students' externships, ensuring a seamless transition from classroom to clinical settings.
  • Regularly review and suggest changes to course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts, to maintain relevance and effectiveness.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, advisory board meetings, in-service opportunities, graduations, workshops, and other campus and professional development opportunities to stay current and network with peers.
  • Complete required documentation for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, early alerts, and other necessary records, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Arrange and coordinate guest speakers, community service field trips, and visits to clinics and dental offices to enrich the learning experience.
  • Participate in assessing facilities and equipment periodically in relation to current dental assisting concepts and recommend appropriate modifications to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • May participate in the supervision of students' externship experience, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Enforce safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors, maintaining a secure and respectful learning environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the success of our program and the growth of our students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or a graduate of an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in Dental Assisting or an institution located outside of the United States and its territories in Dental Assisting or A minimum of three (3) years of job-related training and experience for instructors who are not graduates from an accredited Dental Assistant program.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of occupational (i.e., practical) experience in Dental Assisting.
  • Must be aware of state requirements governing dental assisting programs.
  • Proficient in didactic and clinical four-handed and/or six-handed dentistry principles.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
  • Nationally Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), Registered Dental Assistant (RDA), or licensed dentist. Dentists are not required to hold the CDA or RDA credential.
  • Current license, certification, or another credential required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the Dental Assistant field.
