Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Health Unit Coordinator to join our team at Parkland Health and Hospital System. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our patient services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate clerical activities and support patient services by utilizing clinical information systems to prepare and process patient documents.
  • Verify status information and confirm communications with doctors, nurses, patients, and family members to ensure effective operations of the unit.
  • Monitor and maintain the environment of care, including cleaning and monitoring of refrigerators, organization of nurses station and MD areas, and cleaning of phones and keyboards.
  • Assist with safety monitors, including checking patient ID and allergy bands, and performing baby watch in the WISH units.
  • Transports patients to other departments or for discharge if transportation department is not available.
  • Assist in the training of employees to provide instruction on unit-specific operations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of healthcare experience or one year of related clerical experience.
  • Prefer National Association of Health Unit Coordinators (NAHUC) certification.
  • Current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire and/or placement in job from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or SAMA certification, level 1-2.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff.
  • Ability to complete the Health Unit Coordinator checklist within three months of employment.
  • Ability to demonstrate patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.
