Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist I to join our team at UNC Health. As a Medical Technologist I, you will play a critical role in supporting the clinical activities in our laboratory, performing a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Participate in teams or perform special projects/assignments to improve laboratory operations and patient care.
  • Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and train new employees to ensure knowledge transfer and continuity.
  • Perform quality control and equipment maintenance to ensure laboratory equipment is functioning properly.
  • Conduct routine and less standardized test procedures, including special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests.
  • Prepare specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required to support testing.
  • Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confere with them regarding test results.
  • Review test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of errors.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Lab Science or Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Eligibility to sit for the Medical Technologist exam within 12 months of hire.
  • Obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.
  • No prior experience required.
Work Environment

This part-time position supports the night shift schedule, 12:30am - 6:00am Monday - Thursday. The ideal candidate will have transfusion experience and be eligible for night shift differentials.
