About the Role

IMI plc is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Technician to join our team. As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial valves and equipment at customer sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform field service assignments involving installation, start-up, maintenance, and repair/replacement of industrial valves and equipment.
  • Collaborate with customers to direct performance of site maintenance personnel or personally perform maintenance tasks.
  • Evaluate and analyze technical problems and develop solutions in collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Utilize technical product and application knowledge to assist the engineering and sales teams as needed.
  • Look for opportunities to increase the installed base of industrial valves through replacement, retrofits, or upgrades.
  • Makes judicious use of authority to make independent choices free from immediate direction or supervision.
  • Other assignments as required.
  • Timely submittal of Expense Reports and Service Reports.
  • Instructs/trains customers in the proper maintenance and repair of industrial valves and equipment.
  • Advises customers of adequate spare parts levels and product upgrades.
  • Troubleshooting problems involving industrial valves and equipment and determining methods of repair and/or replacement.
  • Managing unforeseen challenges that arise during the execution of on-site activities.

Requirements
  • 3-6 years in an inside assembly role or relevant external experience in an industrial field service role.
  • Machinist/metal removal experience desirable.
  • Associate's degree in a technical discipline desirable.
  • Technical aspects of CCI, BTG Bailey, and Sulzer products.
  • Valve and actuator assembly and disassembly.
  • Blueprint/Drawing reading.
  • Basic machining.
  • Basic operation of Power Plants and Refineries.
  • Control system calibration.
  • Computer operations such as Word, Excel, E-mail.
  • Knowledge of various inspection techniques such as MP, PT, etc.
  • Skills in managing on-site field service activities necessary to complete the valve project to the satisfaction of the customer.
  • Skills in exercising independent judgment in the analysis, resolution, and execution of solutions to technical problems associated with all severe service valves.
  • Ability to travel 75% of the time, domestically or internationally, on as little as 24 hour notice.
  • Capable of performing managerial/administrative tasks within the field service group.
  • Primarily working independently at a customer's site with occasional supervision.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock when in the shop area to inspect valves.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (office/cubicle environment with computers, fax machines and printers operating) to loud (manufacturing environment with large machinery operating).
