Job Overview

Position Summary

The Behavioral Support Specialist is responsible for delivering tailored behavioral interventions to individuals aged 3 to 21. This role includes providing guidance and training to families, while fostering a supportive environment for both the child and their family. The professional will assist in developing self-help skills and teaching essential social and safety practices as needed. Continuous communication and documentation regarding the approved therapeutic program are essential components of this position.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in a specialized healthcare, educational, or recreational setting. An associate or bachelor's degree in a related field may be considered. Candidates must pass a background check and obtain clearance from the appropriate regulatory body. The ability to work independently is essential. A bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, human services, special education, or a related field, along with substantial experience with specific diagnoses, is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

1. Implement home-based therapeutic goals as outlined by clinicians and approved by state authorities in collaboration with the family.
2. Facilitate socialization opportunities within the home and, when appropriate, in the community.
3. Execute specific tasks as detailed in the approved behavioral support plan.
4. Maintain accurate documentation of progress on required data sheets and progress notes for family and clinical review.
5. Utilize expert guidance from clinical consultants to enhance service delivery.
6. Submit necessary documentation to coordinators promptly, including timesheets and incident reports.
7. Promote principles of self-advocacy that encourage independence and respect for participants.
8. Assist individuals in understanding and advocating for their personal rights and the responsibilities that accompany them.
9. Attend all required meetings and training sessions punctually.
10. May engage in activities chosen by program participants.
11. Provide support to other agency areas as needed.
12. Ensure compliance with quality standards as mandated by regulatory authorities.
13. Report incidents in accordance with regulations.
14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Safeguard sensitive and confidential information.
Actively promote and exemplify the philosophy, mission, and core values of the organization, treating all individuals with respect and dignity.
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment by respecting property and equipment, and adhering to safety protocols.
Familiarize oneself with and actively promote all organizational policies and procedures, as well as specific program regulations.
