Thermal Engineer, Devices

Snap Inc. is a technology company that believes the camera presents the greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. We are looking for a skilled Thermal Engineer, Devices to join our Snap Lab team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect thermal management and mitigation strategies for a new class of consumer devices.
  • Specify and define boundary conditions and frameworks to predict system performance.
  • Partner with key internal stakeholders to assess the system impact of thermal predictions.
  • Co-develop thermal designs including selection and placement of TIMs, materials, and heat spreaders to achieve system requirements alongside mechanical engineering, operations, and external vendor teams.
  • Measure and model transient and steady-state thermal behavior throughout development, then validate and correlate modeled and real-world performance.
  • Partner with EE, PD, and Operations to incorporate learnings and feedback throughout development to refine simulation and design for mass production.
  • Develop and drive design validation, qualification, reliability, and compliance for Snap Lab thermal components.
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of thermal mitigation strategies leveraged in consumer electronics.
  • Experience in thermal analysis and thermal measurement.
  • Familiarity with Ansys ICEPAK, Fluent, or Star CCM.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX, Solidworks, or Creo.
  • Familiarity with reduced-order modeling approaches.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes related to thermal interfaces.
  • Positive, can-do attitude and experience inspiring team to overcome technical challenges.
  • Strong communication skills and experience sharing results with team members and leadership.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS or PhD in physics, materials science, or mechanical engineering with emphasis in heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering thermal solutions in consumer electronics products.
  • Hands-on experience and demonstrated ability in one or more of the following engineering tools and workflows: CAD (NX, Solidworks, Creo, or other); PCB layout (Allegro, Altium, or other).
