Position Overview: Teaching Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UMass Dartmouth is seeking a dedicated Teaching Professor to join our faculty in the field of structural engineering. This role encompasses the delivery of courses including, but not limited to, mechanics of materials, structural analysis, construction management, concrete and steel design, and AutoCAD. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach graduate-level courses tailored for industry professionals focusing on resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

This is a non-tenure-track, 9-month appointment with a primary focus on undergraduate and graduate instruction, both in-person and online, as well as advising undergraduate students and contributing to university service. The initial contract will be for two years, with the potential for renewal and ongoing appointment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction in civil and environmental engineering courses.
  • Utilize inclusive and evidence-based teaching methodologies to support a diverse student body.
  • Guide senior capstone projects and collaborate with colleagues to enhance the curriculum.
  • Provide academic advising and participate in university service initiatives.
  • Actively engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the university community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a master's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline at the time of employment. Experience in college-level teaching, exceptional communication skills, and a strong commitment to educational excellence and diversity are essential. Candidates must also be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will hold a PhD in civil engineering or a related field, be a licensed Professional Engineer, and demonstrate a successful track record in college-level teaching. Experience in both classroom and online instruction, along with industry experience in civil engineering, is highly desirable. We particularly encourage applications from individuals historically underrepresented in engineering fields, including veterans and those with disabilities.

Compensation: Salary range is $80,000 - $104,000.
