Position: Vocational Nurse Specialist

Location: Houston, TX

This announcement is for ongoing recruitment for Vocational Nurse Specialist roles within the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. The recruitment will continue until all vacancies are filled.

Eligibility criteria include U.S. citizenship and graduation from a state-approved practical or vocational nursing program or one accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

Applicants must possess a full, active, current, and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse in any U.S. state.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited practical or vocational nursing program
  • Licensure: Active and unrestricted licensure as a practical or vocational nurse in a U.S. state

Grade Qualifications:

  • Vocational Nurse GS-3: Expected to perform all duties within the scope of their license
  • Vocational Nurse GS-4: Requires six months of relevant experience or graduation from an accredited program with one year of experience
  • Vocational Nurse GS-5: At least one year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent
  • Vocational Nurse GS-6: One additional year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent

The Vocational Nurse Specialist will collaborate within various Care Lines, delivering a broad spectrum of clinical services to veterans under the direct oversight of a registered nurse or healthcare provider.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing routine direct patient care
  • Executing complex therapeutic procedures
  • Identifying acute patient distress and initiating appropriate emergency responses
  • Maintaining medical equipment and therapeutic environments
  • Administering medications
  • Documenting and reporting in the patient's electronic health record

Work Schedule:

Hours may vary, including rotational shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation:

Competitive salary with regular increases.

37-50 days of annual paid leave.
