Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Coding, the Manager/Assistant Director of Coding & HIM is responsible for the daily operations for both the acute and ambulatory services within CoxHealth. This will include professional, inpatient and outpatient for all hospitals and clinics. The Assistant Director will work directly with the coding supervisors, and be a point of contact for the service line they are responsible for leading. This includes managing relationships and facilitating processes and questions for the physicians and other areas our department supports. It is expected to work closely with Coding Director and support in department strategy, mentorship, tactics and improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
The Assistant Director will provide leadership and guidance to the coding team, ensuring that all coding activities are performed in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Coding Operations
The Assistant Director will be responsible for the daily operations of the coding department, including the management of coding staff, coding processes, and coding systems.
Quality and Compliance
The Assistant Director will ensure that all coding activities are performed in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, and that all coding staff are trained and competent in their roles.
Communication and Collaboration
The Assistant Director will work closely with the Coding Director, other department leaders, and external stakeholders to ensure that coding activities are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
Requirements
Required: Bachelor's Degree OR 8 years related experience in lieu of degree.
Required: At least 2 years' leadership in Coding/HIM or related experience.
Required: CPC, RHIT, CCS, COC or CIC (must be obtained within 3 months of hire)
Preferred: CPPM or RHIA
Skills
Leadership and Management
The Assistant Director must have strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and direct a team of coding staff.
Coding Knowledge
The Assistant Director must have a strong understanding of coding principles, including CPT/HCPCS coding, ICD, Medicare guidelines, and medical terminology.
Communication and Collaboration
The Assistant Director must have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, public, and external agencies.
