Position Title: Automation Controls Specialist, Machining Operations
Position Summary:
As an Automation Controls Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering electrical controls support essential for the seamless operation of Heavy Duty Engine (HDE) Machining Operations.
Machining lines include:
Blocks, Connecting Rods, Heads, Liners, as well as Turbo Machining & Assembly Operations.
The Automation Controls Specialist is dedicated to ensuring the operational efficiency of all machining equipment, collaborating closely with Maintenance Supervisors, Mechanical Engineers, Skilled Trades Leaders, and members of the Operations & Quality Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, modify, and provide support for hardware and software related to PLC, CNC, HMI, and robotic controls.
- Resolve issues and enhance device-level networks.
- Support and modify servo and variable frequency drive hardware and software.
- Implement and maintain machining monitoring systems, focusing on integration with higher-level systems.
- Utilize controls technology to optimize both new and existing processes for improved machining solutions.
- Specify, oversee, and assist in the design of controls for new machining equipment acquisitions.
- Offer technical assistance and support for machining operations.
- Collaborate with a team of Skilled Trades, Supervisors, and Process Engineers to diagnose and repair CNC and Assembly Machining Operations.
- Assist Skilled Tradesmen in interpreting technical drawings and OEM documentation necessary for troubleshooting and repairs.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field; or 8 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment hardware and software design practices (including PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, robotics, and vision systems).
- Proficient in PC hardware and commercially available software.
- Understanding of network and database operations.
- Familiarity with electrical codes and standards.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and standards.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with others.
- Capability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings related to building infrastructure and testing equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Siemens Step 7 PLCs / TIA Portal, Siemens 840D NC Programming, and Siemens VFDs, servos, and software.
- Familiarity with Fanuc robots, Cognex vision control systems, and Trumpf laser systems.
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs, VFDs, servos, and software.
- Understanding of fluid systems (pneumatic, hydraulic, coolant, and lubrication).
- Knowledge of metal cutting, press force monitoring, part marking, fastening, washing, and filter manufacturing & machining processes.
- Experience with Maximo, SAP, and Outlook.
