About the Role:

A Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with disabilities in elementary and secondary schools, assisting classroom instruction, implementing IEP goals, managing behaviors, and providing personal care when needed.

Working closely with teachers, they create an inclusive, supportive learning environment that values Equity, Accountability, Integrity, Collaboration, and Fun. This role is part of Denver Public Schools' commitment to ensuring Every Student Will Succeed.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve students from all eligibility categories, teaching literacy, math, language skills, behavioral skills, daily living skills, and/or adaptive skills as needed.
  • Provide instruction at large group, small group, and individual levels, collaborating with general education staff for successful inclusion.
  • Teach and manage self-contained classrooms for students with autism spectrum disorders, focusing on academics, social-emotional, and adaptive behavior skills.
  • Offer instruction for students with emotional disabilities, emphasizing behavioral skills, social skills, and academic skills.
  • Support students who frequently present with multiple disabilities, developing basic skills and concepts, recreation and leisure skills, community skills, vocational and domestic skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Able to meet physical demands of the position, which may include medically invasive procedures and daily living tasks.
  • Possess specialized training in procedures like tube feeding and catheterization, provided by the district as necessary.
  • Pass District-approved written and physical exams covering de-escalation and physical restraint training annually.
  • Meet qualifications outlined in the paraprofessional qualifications guide.

Estimated Salary: $52,500 - $62,320 per year
