Job Title: Maintenance Specialist Senior

Join the City of Durham's Public Works Department as a Maintenance Specialist Senior, where you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing City property, vehicles, roads, and traffic systems. As a senior-level maintenance professional, you will oversee the work of maintenance crews, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and train maintenance crews in the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work.
  • Coordinate logistics and handle unanticipated factors within standard policies and procedures to meet established goals.
  • Perform highly technical maintenance work or lead work crews performing basic and complex labor, equipment operation, construction, maintenance, and/or repair tasks.
  • Ensure daily activity logs and reports are correctly completed, and assign work to crew members.
  • Inspect work, ensure quality control, and operate complex equipment.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Four (4) or more years of equipment operation/driving experience or technical maintenance experience related to assignment.
  • One (1) year of technical training in area of assignment.
  • CDL B driver's license.
  • Experience rebuilding manhole/basins, placing structures, and cleaning of pipes and culverts.
  • Experience operating backhoe.
  • Proficiency in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as City Works.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize a laptop and tablet computer.
  • Ability to utilize communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Working Conditions:

This position is designated as a Group 1, meaning it is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event. The position is subject to stand-by/recall and after-hours work and work during inclement weather. The employee is required to operate a service truck and/or dump truck outfitted with a plow during winter weather operations.
