Position Overview:
Under general supervision, this role involves assisting Mandan Public School (MPS) students in classroom settings with educational programs and special tasks, while also providing support to teachers to foster a positive learning and social environment for students.

Key duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assisting MPS students in classrooms with educational programs, special tasks, and individual support as necessary; providing assistance to teachers as requested; duties may vary based on job assignment.

Supervising, instructing, monitoring, and communicating with students; conducting activities to help students meet learning objectives through individual support and small group sessions.

Helping supervise students and maintain positive behavior; guiding students to remain focused during work and play activities; notifying teachers of any special behavioral or learning concerns.

Assisting students with learning tasks and Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

Supporting the development of individual learning plans, class lesson plans, and special events; aiding in the planning, preparation, development, and distribution of classroom materials.

Monitoring student behavior and documenting any special issues or concerns; ensuring all required reports are completed and submitted daily; assisting with clerical tasks and record-keeping as needed.

Communicating with parents, students, and staff to relay important information while maintaining confidentiality of personal data. Assisting with individual and small group interventions to enhance student behavior.

Supervising students in various settings, including classrooms, during meals, and on the playground to ensure student safety; enforcing district policies and rules of conduct, and reporting behavioral issues, disciplinary incidents, and other concerns to the teacher or principal.

Promoting a positive relationship between Mandan Public Schools and the community by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and school staff; maintaining strict confidentiality regarding work-related matters, client records, and school information; adhering to compliance regulations regarding child welfare; performing related duties as assigned.

Building Principal Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Knowledge of: MPS policies and procedures. Classroom procedures and processes. Methods and techniques for assisting in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics. Safety rules and regulations. Personal computers and specialized software applications for educational systems. Principles and procedures for record keeping and file maintenance.

Skills Required:
Ability to monitor and enhance student behavior and learning skills. Experience assisting children and students with special needs, and assessing educational requirements. Capacity to maintain composure and work effectively in classroom and school environments. Skill in dealing tactfully and courteously with students, demonstrating patience, understanding, and care. Ability to assist students in improving behavior and social skills. Competence in following verbal and written instructions and procedures. Capability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues. Proficiency in effective verbal and written communication.

Licensing and Certification Requirements:
A valid North Dakota State Driver's License may be required. Paraprofessional certification from the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is required for Title 1 Schools. Additional training and certifications may be necessary for some individuals.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
