Job Title: High Voltage Electric Lineperson

Join the City of Palo Alto's Utilities Department as a High Voltage Electric Lineperson, responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing high-powered electrical lines and systems.

Job Summary:

The primary role of a Lineperson is to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the city's electrical distribution system. This includes climbing power poles and steel towers, working on energized lines, and performing high-voltage field switching.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Climb power poles and steel towers to make repairs and perform maintenance tasks.
  • Work on energized lines, low voltage and high voltage, to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the electrical distribution system.
  • Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical systems and equipment up to 60 KV.
  • Perform high-voltage field switching, including working with energized high-voltage equipment with approved hotline tools.
  • Perform rubber glove work on voltages up to and including 21,000 volts.
  • Drive and operate specialized vehicular equipment to perform disconnect reconnects and other related assignments.
Requirements:
  • Sufficient education, training, and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship as an electrical lineperson.
  • Certificate REQUIRED to be Uploaded.
  • Special Requirements: Employees are required to have a journeyman's card.
