Senior Maintenance Technician for Field Operations

Overview:
The Senior Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role within the Tech Services field support team, focusing on the commissioning, assistance, and troubleshooting of control systems, automation technologies, and various industrial machinery used in oil and gas drilling operations. This position involves traveling to drilling rig locations to execute a range of service and maintenance tasks related to controls and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert for drilling control systems and rig-based technologies.
- Conduct inspections, services, and repairs on both new and existing drilling rig control systems.
- Independently navigate and update software and firmware on various PLCs, routers, HMIs, and other components of drilling rig control systems.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of electrical and control systems issues both remotely and on-site.
- Demonstrate expertise in troubleshooting various control system components, including switches, power supplies, and network systems.
- Provide training and mentorship to technicians at all levels on drilling rig equipment and control systems.
- Execute intermediate and complex repairs on control and automation systems.
- Diagnose and test electrical and electronic components, ensuring effective wiring and issue isolation.
- Offer insights for product enhancements and improvements.
- Oversee maintenance projects on the rig, collaborating with crew members and external parties.
- Monitor issues remotely and conduct root cause analysis independently.
- Utilize experience to mentor others in troubleshooting and maintenance of drilling controls.
- Develop and manage spare parts inventory for specific equipment.
- Maintain industrial battery systems and troubleshoot power generation issues.
- Conduct diagnostic testing of rig equipment using provided system software.
- Exhibit advanced knowledge of oil and gas field components, both hardware and software.
- Understand and repair various types of industrial machinery.
- Demonstrate knowledge of hydraulic and mechanical circuits, as well as electrical systems.
- Interpret electrical schematics and technical documents effectively.
- Coordinate and supervise control systems conversions on rigs.
- Perform other duties as assigned that may extend beyond this job description.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Several years of relevant experience with electrical and control systems.
- Field maintenance experience in a related environment.
- Technical training combined with hands-on experience in controls, HVAC, hydraulics, or diesel technology.
- Valid state-issued driver's license and eligibility to operate company vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in field maintenance within the oil and gas industry.
- Background in drilling or related sectors.
- Bachelor's degree in a computer or electrical-related field.
- Familiarity with various electrical equipment and maintenance practices.
Work Environment:
This role requires working both indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and high winds. The Senior Maintenance Technician will regularly encounter typical conditions associated with drilling rig operations.
