Department Summary

The Risk Management Services team provides proactive support for the strategic, operational, and financial foundation of the University of North Texas. We identify, analyze, and mitigate risks to prevent loss and ensure a safe and healthy campus environment, allowing the UNT community to pursue growth and advancement opportunities freely. Our collaborative approach with the UNT community helps them manage risks proactively, implement preventative measures, and navigate challenges effectively.

Position Overview

This position is crucial for ensuring the University of North Texas System's readiness and rapid recovery from disruptive incidents. The role involves supporting the creation, execution, and evaluation of a comprehensive Business Continuity program across the entire system. Responsibilities include collaborating with member institutions, conducting risk assessments, delivering training, and facilitating exercises to promote resilience throughout the system.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in emergency management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Familiarity with the five phases of emergency management and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to collaborate with diverse disciplines across a large organization.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of business continuity principles within the higher education sector.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:

  • Assist in the development, review, and enhancement of the UNT System Business Continuity Framework Plan, ensuring alignment with the needs of each member institution.
  • Support member institutions in developing and maintaining their individual Business Continuity Plans (BCP), offering guidance and best practices for consistency and alignment with the system-wide program.
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on BCPs created by member institutions.
  • Design and deliver training sessions and workshops on business continuity planning for university staff across the system.
  • Develop and facilitate tabletop exercises and simulations to assess the effectiveness of BCPs for the University System and its member institutions.
  • Conduct, coordinate, and evaluate after-action reviews (AARs) of exercises and actual events, documenting lessons learned and recommending improvements to emergency operations plans and procedures.
  • Engage with key stakeholders across the University System and member institutions regarding business continuity matters.
  • Participate in the formulation and implementation of system-wide risk management strategies.
  • Assist with response and recovery efforts during and after incidents.
  • Serve as Duty Officer on a rotational basis, requiring 24/7 availability.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist with large-scale special events outside of regular business hours, including nights, weekends, and potential holidays.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm Standard / After hours and weekend availability based on Duty Officer schedule.
