Maritime Safety and Environmental Specialist

The Maritime Safety and Environmental Specialist is responsible for managing safety and environmental initiatives within the maritime sector. Key duties include performing risk evaluations, executing corrective measures, and ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. This role involves reporting to the HSE Manager to enhance the organization's HSE framework. Essential skills for this position include strong communication, interpersonal abilities, and familiarity with maritime and industrial settings.

  • Foster collaboration among field personnel, management, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Conduct on-site risk evaluations and compliance audits.
  • Engage in regular safety briefings.
  • Carry out field monitoring and sampling for various environmental parameters.
  • Investigate incidents and track occurrences, proposing solutions to mitigate future risks.
  • Uphold company HSE policies and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist operational teams in managing identified risks.
  • Maintain comprehensive inspection records for HSE initiatives.
  • Develop and revise HSE plans tailored to specific operations.
  • Ensure the availability and proper utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Administer first aid and CPR when necessary.
  • Manage environmental awareness programs and maintain accurate records.
  • Evaluate workplace procedures for potential enhancements.
  • Conduct orientation and fit testing for new hires.
  • Complete designated projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Adherence to company policies and guidelines.
  • Flexibility in work scheduling.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in HSE roles within maritime or industrial contexts.
  • Certification as an OSHA competent person.
  • Current first aid and CPR certification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to pursue additional certifications as needed.
